2011 Food Festival

Nearly 300 Canadians and friends attended the event at the Mount Guy Rum Visitor Centre on April 17th. Together, they spent over $60,000 to help those in need. Thanks to the 140 businesses and artists who donated various products and services – the items or gift certificates were sold through the auction or given as food & drink samples to participants.

The highlight this year was Ottawa Senators & Bert’s owner Eugene Melnyk who donated a chance to be a “Senator’s Owner for a Day”. Hockey fans spent $20,000 on the opportunity to meet with the team coach, the players, and to watch the game from the comfort of the Owner’s box…all with first-class treatment!

The Food Festival & Charity Auction is a tradition of the CWC that people look forward to every year – a unique opportunity to meet interesting people, discover new businesses and contribute to keeping the people of Barbados safe and happy! Since 1922, Canadian women have spent countless hours on raising and spending funds to help those in need through local charities. To volunteer with them, donate or participate in social events, visit www.cwcbarbados.com.

The event chairperson Annie Bertrand would like to add a special thank you to the volunteers who helped before, during or after : Annette Sandiford, Breanne Byrne, Breda Blazevic, Candace Henry, Cathy Gauthier, Christine Sandiford, Claudia Cuellar, Debbie Marion, Denise Chase, Hilda Nagai, Jacqui Kovacs-Cuke, Julie McNicoll, Kristin Boland, Lorraine Haynes, Jennifer Hainer, Maggie Griffiths, Marina Balac, Martha Berry, Melissa Pierre, Monica Tawa, Penny Smith, Renae Aselstine, Sharon Dalinda, Sheila Wilkinson, Stephanie Acoca, Suzanne Gauthier, Tanya Foster, all those members selling advance tickets and particularly, Beverley Ryan. Finally, our professional entertainers also volunteered their time – thank you to the Barbados Culinary Team, the ZigE band, and our auctioneer Ian Bourne.

As you may all know, our club has been helping to improve the quality of life for those less fortunate in Barbados for the past 89 years. This support is made possible because of the generosity, sense of responsibility, and time donated by the club’s executives and its members. Thank you for getting involved, even if it simply means to pay your fees every year and buying/selling tickets for our fundraising events!

If you are interested in doing more next year, or if you have any questions about our community service activities, please let us know.

Finally, please join us in thanking our generous donors listed below. Whenever you have a chance, visit these organizations and acknowledge their contribution as business citizens. Let them feel that donating is not only the right thing to do but also a great marketing investment. We will promote the name of our donors on our website as well: www.cwcbarbados.com.
